New Zealand Partner of Student Work Visa

This visa allows the applicant to work in New Zealand while their partner is undertaking study for an eligible level 7 or 8 qualification, or a level 9 or 10 qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF). With this visa, the applicant may stay with their partner during their time in New Zealand, take up employment without needing to secure a job offer before applying, study for up to three months, and travel freely in and out of New Zealand throughout the validity of the visa. The duration and validity of this visa will be aligned with the student visa of the partner.

Please note that dependent children cannot be included in the same application; however, they may apply separately for visas based on their relationship to the applicant. The stay period and visa validity granted will match the duration of the partner’s student visa. After the partner completes their scholarship, the applicant will generally not be eligible to apply for another temporary visa for two years unless written approval is obtained from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT). The only exception to this restriction is a short-term visitor visa application.
