Italy Student Visa Long-Term is a national Visa Type D given to students who wish to study in Italy for a period of more than 90 days, both at public and private institutions. The validity and period of stay is 120 days. After arriving in Italy, the applicant can apply for a Permanent Residence Permit.

The application procedure can be initiated no earlier than 90 days and no later than 45 days before the planned departure date. Applications can be submitted as early as 6 months before departure. After applying, the passport cannot be taken home until the visa process is complete.
